Sushma makes statement on Yemen in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, April 20 (IANS): Amid a huge ruckus and slogan shouting by opposition members, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday said in the Lok Sabha that the evacuation of Indians from strife-torn Yemen was a collective effort, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"We successfully evacuated Indians from Yemen under very difficult circumstances," Sushma Swaraj said in her statement.

"It was a collective effort, led by the prime minister in which everybody collaborated. The international community has commended our efforts to bring back Indian citizens from Yemen," she said.

The opposition made all efforts to disrupt the statement, trooping to the speaker's podium and shouting slogans against the land bill.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudy had minutes before tabled the amended land ordinance in the house.

The opposition, led by the Congress, shouted slogans like "Take back the land bill" and "Jai jawan, jai kisan".

As the external affairs minister completed her statement, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the house till 2 p.m.
