Collectibles, tribal art up for auction


New Delhi, April 20 (IANS): An ethnic betel leaf and tobacco box, M.F.Husain's pen and ink drawings on post cards and a wooden gramophone are among the collectibles up for auction on April 26 here, the organisers said on Monday.

The day-long auction called "The Spring Auction" is divided into three segments: The collectibles, folk and tribal art and modern and contemporary masters. It would be held at The Claridges hotel.

Around 230 lots are up for grabs in this auction which is being organised by the ArtDeal Auction House, that would also put objects like rare patachitra art of Orissa, mica paintings from Bihar and the kalighats of West Bengal on sale.

Works of heavyweight artists like F.N. Souza, S.H. Raza, V.S. Gaitonde, Satish Gujral and Paresh Maity, alongside the works of legendary Bengal masters like Rabindranath, Gaganendranath and Abanindranath Tagore, Jamini Roy and Nand Lal Bose will also go under the hammer.
