Kundapur, Apr 20: In a tragic incident, a young girl jumped to death from a municipality water tank at Sangam here on Monday April 20 evening.

Shobhina (19), daughter of Babanna from Kotegudde is the deceased.

Shobhina came from a very poor family. Her father works for a hotel for livelihood.

Shobhina could study till SSLC only. She was working in a local shop and was suffering from eye cancer for the past one year.

It is said that she was depressed due to her illness and on Monday night at around 8 pm she climbed the water tank belonging to the municipality near the local crematorium and jumped from there to end her life. During the said act there was no electricity in the area.

Shobhina used the ladder which was fixed to the water tank. The tank is said to be erected at a height of hundred feet from the ground level. The locals expressed unhappiness about the fact that there was no gate or lock to stop unauthorized persons from using the ladder.

Kundapur DySP M Manjunath Shetty, circle inspector P M Divakar, and other personnel came to the spot. The body has been sent to Kundapur police station for further procedures.

Who can say she was weak in body? When she could climb to the tank that too at 8 pm where there was no electricity? Perhaps she was weak in mind. Youngsters should have guts to lead life when they have guts to end life.

Everybody offers sympathy and prayers when they are dead. Why as a society we are little more watchful about others so that there will not be any more deaths in our vicinity.

    R.I.P.
I am of the opinion that D.W. could have done something if the matter was brought to their attention on time. They have done such fund rising appeal in the past on humanitarian grounds.
Surprisingly, why the entrance is not blocked (both at ground and tank level). Having access up to the water tank is very dangerous in view of the water is for public consumption. I remember during Bangla liberation time (war) the rumours were in the air that terrorists had slipped into Mangalore to poison the water. I do not know how far that was true.

Just to note that there was no electricity at the time of incident, its seems to be foul play because she was cancer patient & locals are upset about there is no gate with lock etc., they are not bothered earlier after incidents pointing out the facts.anyway poor girl died. may her soul rest in peace.

R.I.P Shobina. My thoughts and prays are with your family.

Why does God allow some people to be born into extreme poverty?

    RIP to the young Girl.

And to you Mr. R. D'Silva,
God does not allow anyone to be born into extreme poverty.

There are very rare cases where someone is born blind, dumb, deaf, or mute or in some cases lame.

We can however like this unfortunate girl climb a water tank and end our miseries or work hard and tirelessly and leave it to God to bless our hard work.

The tragedy of this world is that no one is happy, whether stuck in a time of pain or of joy.
The life in this world is a test for us from Almighty God.

When eve obeyed Satan, evil ,sickness entered us as we gotcut off from the Living Source. We need to keep our eyes on Jesus, while evil tries to strike us thru various means leading Us tO think that God is the cause of misery. Jesus came to give life and life to the fullest.

Oh god! this is heart wrenching! Poverty coupled with health issues and more over a girl- this is the gift of our successive governments.. today they make act as if they are working for oppressed, backwards, farmers, mazdoors, minorities and all that - but NOTHING is seen on the ground..! woh kamzor, laachar, bebas hi rehta hai! Heart goes out to Babanna and family, I am sure, they dont even know that their girl must be suffering from something called "Depression"!

Rest in peace girl! Be born again, only if BETI BACHAO is truly succesful and every person in this land gets free education and free healthcare!

Some people suffer a lot in this world for no fault of theirs...this puzzles me...most of the time good people suffer more in this world than bad people..

    RIP Shobhina..

Very unfortunate for those who take their lives because of illness. How do we feel sometime when we have a simple headache, just image they need to spare the pain all their life, that is why I think they decide to kill the deceases by committing suicide.

I hope the government will work out some insurance plan for poor citizens. Its extremely difficult for a poor to arrange amount for medical treatment. They already collect so much tax and nothing for poor.
