Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Apr 21: Relating to the recovery of over 30 Adhaar cards that were meant to be delivered to the respective beneficiaries, in the scrap pile of a scrap dealer at Bellare near here, a postman stands suspended.

All these cards were addressed to people living within Chokkady post office in the taluk. Relating to this case, postman of Chokkady, Girish, was suspended on Monday, April 20.

When sorting out scrap that had gathered at a shop dealing with wastepaper and other scrap at Bellare on April 16 evening, the shop owner grew curious after finding over 30 Adhaar cards inside a bundle of newspapers. All these cards bore the address of Chokkady within Amarapadnur village. These cards, which were to be distributed through Chokkady sub post office, had gone directly to scraps shop instead of being delivered to the addressees.

Postal inspector of Sullia subdivision, Rajeev, conducted inquiry relating to the incident at Chokkady on Friday. He also took into possession Adhaar cards found in the scraps shop as well as those cards which remained undelivered at Chokkdy sub post office. In addition, the postman was suspended for dereliction of duty.

Luckily the scrap / waste paper dealer informed the police and sincerely proved and discharged role of a responsible citizen. He should deserve some sort of appreciation.

At this case, these Aadhar cards did not reach to wrong hands, otherwise you know what would have happened where terrorism is in its full boom

This is nothing as compared to RTO of Mangalore. If you do not pay bribe to the Case worker in RTO office OR if you dont go through a Broker then your applications for any work in RTO office are dumped in a corner and atleast for six months no one touches it. Sakal is not at all followed in RTO.

    Bhandarkar,

Postal service played important role those olden days in reaching people (communication) sending greetings and remittances but today’s world is entirely different. We had to wait for days to feel the effect but today everything instantly.

Probably one of the most hardworking professionals were postmen and they were a well respected lot before the advent of other methods of communication!!

Also postal dept. may be the only dept. within the Govt. control which cannot indulge in corruption and make easy money other than 'money from the sweat of their brow'!!

While condemning such isolated incidents I still salute the posts and telegraphs dept. and the postmen!! Jai Hind!!

    Those days when 'Love Letters'were
the order of the day ,postmen played a very important part. Some postmen delivering many such letters had eloped becoming very very familiar with 'love struck girls' and all that. Many remember such stories.
Now telegrams stopped ticking the other day. The day is not far when the 'postman' too will be shown the door. it is just a matter of time. Such deeds in any case will hasten the inevitable!

Among all Depts under Govt of India, postal dept is the most trusted and well respected dept among all people and postmen/women are always looked up by the people for their honest service! One person like Girish is enough to bring bad name to the whole dept!

Well, this could be an exception. Otherwise, Postmen are generally prompt, duty bound and above all polite and friendly. If Girish is proved to be guilty, a penal action is required and which will also serve as a deterrence to offenses like these are not repeated.

Even this may not be postman's mistake. Why would he deliver the cards to scrap. Even if had delivered it there, shop keepers would have known at that time itself. This is perhaps the negligence of those in charge of selling old papers and scrap in the post office. They handed over old newspapers and did not notice the cards in between. Poor post man.

Guys, remember those days when no internet, emails, whatsapp, fb and electronic money transfers etc. When postman comes home with any postal materials, we were anxiously waiting for him and was excited to open the delivered packs/letters, PSC interview or appointment letters or to even receive the money orders. Postmen those days command great respect and were of great integrity and best relied personnel.

I have same image and impression about the profession even today. Do not why Grish did this!
