India provides assistance for Malawi flood victims


New Delhi, April 21 (IANS): India has made a contribution of $250,000 to Malawi in response to a request for assistance in view of floods in the African country.

The external affairs ministry said Malawi's Vice President Saulos Chilima conveyed his appreciation for India's contribution and said it had come at a crucial time as efforts for rehabilitation of flood victims were underway.

"In response to a request by the government of Malawi for assistance to mitigate the consequences of serious flooding in the months of January-February 2015, the government of India made a cash contribution of $250,000 to the government of Malawi," the ministry said in a release.
