Delhi starts open reality check of old diesel vehicles

New Delhi, April 21 (IANS): The Delhi government's transport department on Tuesday started an open reality check of 10-year-old diesel commercial vehicles at the Transport Authority office in Burari in north Delhi to check their emission levels and assess their fitness.

A government statement said Transport Minister Gopal Rai inspected the drive.

"On this basis, the department would apprise the National Green Tribunal about the details and relevant facts regarding emission levels of 10-year-old diesel vehicles," he said.

A total of 53 vehicles were checked on Tuesday, of which 45 were cleared and eight failed the tests.

Officials of the transport department, environmental activists and representatives of transport unions were also present during the drive.
