Udupi, Apr 22: Due to strong wind which blew in the region at around 10 pm on Tuesday April 21, two huge towers of Akashavani at Brahmavar in the taluk crashed to the ground.

Fall of these towers, which are 108 metres in height, did not cause damage to other assets or buildings as no other constructions are located near the towers. New towers had been erected at Brahmavar Akashvani, which had started functioning in 1971, in 1982. Renovation works had taken place in 2005. These towers worked to beam the sound waves received through transmitters.

The fallen towers have interfered with the working of of Akashvani here. It is expected that temporary towers will be erected first to begin the transmission work again as soon as possible.
