Kundapur, Apr 22: In a heart-rending incident reported late evening on Wednesday April 22, a 11-month-old baby boy died after accidentally falling into a well while being fed by his mother.

The tragic incident took place near Rama Mandir at Kandlur. The deceased baby is identified as Sheraj, son of Shaista and Sarfaraz. His mother who jumped into the well to save him was rescued.

As per details, Shaista (24), daughter-in-law of Ibrahim Saheb and mother of the baby, was feeding her child, reportedly placing him on the parapet of the well at around 7.30 pm on Wednesday. The baby lost balance and fell into the well. Shocked at the sight, the mother also jumped into the well to save her baby.

The locals on hearing the mother's screams rushed to the spot and tried their best to rescue the mother-son duo. But only the mother could be saved as the child was declared brought dead on arrival at a private hospital in Kundapur.

Sarfaraz, the father of the child works in Dubai while his wife and child stayed here with his parents.

The funeral was held on Wednesday night itself, it is revealed.

Luckily mother is alive to tell the story. Otherwise, her father in law and mother in law were blamed for the death of the baby and mother who jumped to rescue the child. Children should be fed inside the house, that too after 6 in the evening. Yepa buddhi barpund eee janakuleg.

First of all I am extremely sorry for the mother on losing her kid, nothing can replace her loss. But I cannot understand which sane mother would feed a kid on the parapet, imagine juggling, the child, food bowl and feeding at the same time. No excuses can justify this action.

"WELL" is not a place to feed a baby. We take so much of care and precautions when a baby is born then why not while feeding. This shows utter negligence of a mother.

We spend so much money on house, well and also sometimes for lavish living life-style. Why cant we spend little money and cover the well with mesh instead leaving it open when children run around! In this case, what to say, its a sheer negligence of the mother. Pity Poor small kid.

Don't be so harsh on mom with your comments. Sometimes it is very difficult fed a child. So mom's are using so many ways lure them. I am sure this is not the first time she feeding child on the parapet of the well. It is an unfortunate incident. No one noticed the mother's she dived into the well to rescue her child..

Does not make sense to me.Safety comes first. If the child was not eating then that does not mean that one has to use dangerous places to feed the baby. There are so many ways to feed even a stubborn baby in a safe and open place inside the home, in the varanda etc.It is always better to be safe than sorry.

I would also make a request, never ever try to feed infants carrying in hand and standing close to the railings in the balcony.

Forget about placing on the parapet even carrying infants close to the well is dangerous. Chances are there that kids become hyper or over excited while watching the water.

Our heartfelt condolences. There is no concept of "safety first" in India. If this concept was rooted in life style, baby would not have been fed on the bank of the well. The well should have iron grills to protect any one falling into the well. Again this is a safety concept. There are so many accidents on the road, because of lack of safety concern. If people adopt safety first concept, so many lives would be saved.

WHY MOTHER DID NOT FIND ANY BETTER PLACE TO FEED HER OWN BABY OTHER THAN OPEN WELL?

IF MOTHER DOES THIS WAY, WHY WE SHOULD BLAME HOUSE MAID,BABY SITTER ETC.
BETTER CHECK HER WITH PSYCHIATRIC SPECIALIST.
