Kundapur, Apr 24: The police have arrested a person for allegedly taking two young girls to a thicket near his house and sexually harassed them.

The local police arrested Thimma (42), a resident of Kenchanur scheduled caste colony near here on Thursday April 23 night. He has been charged with harassing two eight-year-old girls. Thimma reportedly approached these two girls, who are daughters of a labourer and his sister, who live in the same colony, and encouraged them to accompany him to a thicket. Parents of these children were away at work when this happened.

Once there, Thimma, the children said, behaved with them in an unnatural and aggressive way. When the parents of the girl came home in the evening from work, the children were sobbing inconsolably. After persistent cajoling and questioning, the children explained in their innocent language what they had gone through. The parents then conveyed to others what had happened. After the policemen were told about the incident, they came to the colony and took the accused into custody.

Both the girls have since been admitted into the government hospital here. Medical tests were conducted on him. The accused continues to be in the custody of police, who are interrogating him. Deputy superintendent of police, Manjunath Shetty, visited the hospital and gathered the details of the children's ordeal.
