Dammam: Excitement galore at MASA Sports Day

Dammam, Apr 25: MASA Sports Day 2015, the much-awaited event of Mangaloreans residing in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, organized by Mangalore Association Saudi Arabia (MASA) was held recently with much fun and frolic.

The weather was pleasant, and the excitement and enthusiasm of members was abundant. At 9 am, MASA president Narendra Shetty inaugurated the event with a welcome note in presence of advisory committee members Madhav Amin, Ravi Karkera, Dayanand Shriyan, Ahmed Gulam Beary and the ex-com members Sadashiv Poojary, Vidyadhar Shetty, Mohammed Nooman, Sathish Bajal, Praveen Peter Aranha, Babu Kotebetty, Viraj Kumar Shetty, Dayanand Chowta, Edwin Martis, Puttaraju and Ibrahim Khader.

Members were divided into four houses - Red, Green, Blue and Yellow - led by Ibrahim Khader, Edwin Martis, Dayanand Chowta and Puttaraju respectively. The games were organized very professionally by the event organizing teams led by sports committee head Viraj Kumar Shetty.

The event started with an interesting surprise game, where the contestant had to sip milk through a feeding bottle. Captains of all 4 houses were the participants. Green House captain Edwin Martis turned to be the champion in this game. The day continued with a variety of games for all age groups ranging from 0 to 6 to above 50.

Individual games and ladies throwball were conducted in the morning session, while group games started after the Friday prayer and lunch break. As the day progressed, the pleasant atmosphere turned into a virtual battlefield charged with electrifying energy and sporting spirit. The support and encouragement from each of the houses to their team members to win the medals was worth watching. Fully charged up members, the old, the young, the teens and the kids, were all cheered on by their respective houses and made the event a grand success.

Watching children test their power in the tug of war event was very entertaining, and after that it was the turn of the ladies to showcase their strength tugging at the rope. The highly tensed men's tug of war was no less than a war. Each participant fought it out with a commendable sporting spirit giving their all to put their houses on top.

In games arranged forthe gentlemen agedabove fifty wasLemon and spoon race and blasting the balloon which were full of fun and entertaining. The other group game, dodge ball, for ladies and children and dog and bone for children too saw some tough competition among the houses and was fully enjoyed by the participants and the viewers.

The House championship was won by Red House with 94 points, while the Yellow House with 70 points secured the first runner-up, followed by Green House with 61 points and blue House with 44 Points, respectively.


MASA Sports Day winners and event list:



First, second and third place individual and group winners were invited to the victory stand and were awarded with bouquets and medals. The champion trophies will be presented on the MASA Annual Day which will be held in December 2015.
