Two killed in Bangladesh earthquake


Dhaka, April 25 (IANS): Two women were killed during evacuation in Tangail and Pabna districts of Bangladesh on Saturday after an earthquake, followed by a shockwave, hit different parts of the country, media reported.

The jolt was felt shortly after a 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. The epicentre of the quake was in Lamjung district of Nepal.

Two tremors were felt in the span of half an hour on Saturday afternoon in different parts of Bangladesh, The Daily Star reported.

Over 100 people were also injured across the country.

Many buildings tilted due to the impact of the quake.

The Pabna victim, Rokeya Khanam Eti, 60, wife of Pabna municipality Awami League president Sohrab Hossain, ran out of her home for safety but suddenly fell and suffered a cardiac arrest.

Parina Begum, 25, in Tangail district also died of a heart attack after she rushed out of her home.

She was declared brought dead when taken to Kumudini Hospital.

Over 1000 people were killed in the quake in Nepal. Many people were also killed in different parts of India.
