Government determined to end manual scavenging: Modi

New Delhi, April 26 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that his government is determined to end manual scavenging.

Addressing his monthly Mann ki Baat radio programme, he said it was not proper that in today's world families had to manually remove and carry human excreta as headload.

"Does it behove that even in today's world some families have to carry human waste on their heads?" he asked.

Modi said in the 125th birth anniversary of Dalit icon B.R. Ambedkar, his government was determined to end this "inhuman practice".
