Mangaluru, Apr 26: A woman was killed on the spot in a tragic accident in front of Sahara hospital in Thokkottu here on Sunday April 26.

The deceased has been identified as Maimuna (50), a resident of Krishnapura.

She had come with her son to attend a relative's wedding at Kallapu Unity hall. After the wedding, she and her son decided to go to Ullal Uroos, when the accident took place.

Maimuna's son was riding the Activa scooter while she was sitting pillion. When they reached near Sahara hospital, the Activa got stuck in big pothole on the edge of the national highway 66, due to which Maimuna lost balance and fell on to the road.

At that moment, a garbage truck moving from Mangaluru to Thokkottu, which was behind the scooter, ran over Maimuna and killed her on the spot.

Following the accident, the traffic on the highway was affected for sometime. The Ullal police who arrived at the spot cleared the way. The also put up a barricade near the pothole for the safety of other commuters.

The locals who gathered at the spot expressed anger at the poor condition of the highway, which they said had resulted in Maimuna's death.

A case has been registered in Ullal police station.

    Dear friends,
It is sad that Mangalore has stooped down to such low standards that people here are blaming burqua, jeans etc and focusing on the religion of the deceased. Let them rest in peace for God's sake.
Instead of indulging in such cheap, narrow minded talk, use the same vigour and unite to fight against politicians who are breaking/dividing the community.
How many of you dared to meet the local MLA or the municipal engineer and took him to task for this unfortunate incident ?? Act first to solve the problem rather than barking and fighting like dogs here !!! Shame on you people...

RSRB, have you gone to any school or you are uneducated?

Come out of this polluted mindset, and stop tagging someones death as a decrease in womens population.

Let people live with whatever dress they want to. Even a LKG student will blame the pothole for an accident, and you blame it on a dress. Shame on you man! Get a life.

she is my aunt, it is utter disgrace to see a comment like tht of shankars which focuses on burkha. Shakar for your info, she was a lady who loved wearing burkha, and took pride in it. The reason for the fall is potholes. and unfortunately potholes doesn't have religion, else you would have tagged it as a hindu pothole, muslim pothole etc.

Let people wear what they like to. Basic infrastructure like roads need to be corrected. a life is lost

During election time please ask the local MLA on what they are going to do for the development of Mangalore. Dont just go to vote because the MLA is of their cast or religion. All these politicians are same when in power. What is Lobo doing after winning the election? Before election he was good and now the true colour of a politician is showing on him.

Very sad incident! There is no value for life in this country. Agreed that its also MLA's responsibility to raise the voice about the pathetic state of NH!btw NH is national highway and comes under center not state and we have a MP also. This is just FYI as I do not like blame game. Irony is one life is lost due to carelessness of our representatives!

I think unwieldy dress of women like burkha makes it uncomfortable journey on pillion.
To make pillion riding safe, women should wear jeans and should avoid sitting with two legs hanging on one side. Leave the legs across the seat, hold the rider tight for a safe two wheeler journey.

Really the condition of the said highway is poor.. Its dangerous for 2-wheelers to ride especially at night.. We cannot make out of path holes.. Administrative department is responsible for this accident.. Take appropriate action on whoever responsible for this accident.. Our mayor is busy in the process of transferring able municipal commissioner.. Today there is a breaking news from congress side that one more delegation is ready to visit CM in Bangalore for lobbying transferring able Municipal Commissioner.. Shame on you guys!!!!!!

What is our MLA doing? He commutes so many times to Ullal to his supporters and still can not understand the plight of common man? He must be feeling safe in his Innova. This will be his last term as MLA from Ullal if he continues to ignore common man's problems.
