Puttur, Apr 26: An ambulance driver who killed a forester in a road accident has been found guilty and sentenced. Judge Basavaraju from Puttur civil court delivered the judgement and pronounced the quantum of punishment.

Lakshmegowda is the person who has been convicted. He was working as a driver in a government ambulance when the accident took place on February 10, 2011.

The deceased forester Prabhakar was on duty when the accident happened. He was checking vehicles at Inchlampadi cross with other officials when the government ambulance driven by Lakshmegowda hit him and as a result he died on the spot.

The defence had put an argument that Lakshmegowda did not have the left leg. But the prosecutor C Thammanna argued that a person with a single leg would not be allowed to drive a government ambulance and the accused never said on record at any time that he did not have another leg.

Lakshmegowda will spend 1 year and 7 months jail as per the sentence pronounced by the court.
