Mangaluru, Apr 27: A meeting on implementation of right to education act in the district was conducted presided over by deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim here at D C office in Mangaluru on Monday, April 27.

Block education officers (BEOs) of all the taluks explained to the deputy commissioner, the steps taken to implement to Right to Education.

Lolaksha, president of shikshana rakshana vedike said "Maximum schools in the district including major schools have failed to follow the circular given to erect the flex to create awareness on right to education act. Though the BEOs have the right to take action against the schools who have not followed the circular. All the BEOs have told the lied to the deputy commissioner. None of the schools have erected flex. The BEO have not inspected any schools."

BEO of Mangaluru south said there were SSLC exams so they could not inspect. DDPU said that there is a shortage of manpower and hence they could not inspect and will do the inspection, once manpower is available.

Deputy commissioner said "You officials cannot give excuse about exam. It is your duty to inspect. If you cannot inspect, then write to the government that there is shortage of manpower and you cannot act on this circular". He also asked the officials to implement the RTE.

Dr Devanand R Gaonkar, Joint director collegiate education, DDPU Thimayya and BEOs were present at the meeting.
