Kasargod: Police arrest man wanted in blackmail racket

Kasargod, Apr 28: Police arrested a person for evading arrest and threatening the police by brandishing a pistol. The arrested person is Kumble Pookatte resident Nizar (30) who had been absconding. He was arrested from his wife's house and is thought to be a suspect in 10 cases of blackmail.


The incident occurred four months ago. A team led by Nizar had abducted a businessman and taken him to a guest house. They clicked nude pictures of the man with a girl and demanded Rs 40 lacs as ransom. They had threatened to publish the pictures on social media websites if the amount was not paid.

In the end, they took Rs 5 lacs from the businessman and left him at Kumble. A police complaint regarding the incident was lodged with Kottayam police. Three accomplices of Nizar were arrested in connection with the incident. Though the police also tried to arrest Nizar from Kumble, he crashed his car into the police vehicle and fled.

This time he was arrested on a tip-off and has been handed over to Kottayam police.
