Bihar sends thousands of food packets, blankets to Nepal


Patna, April 29 (IANS): The Bihar government has intensified its efforts to provide relief to the people affected by the April 25 earthquake in Nepal, and bring home people from the state stranded in the Himalayan nation.

Consignments of the relief material are being sent daily to the earthquake-hit people in Nepal.

Sri Vyasji, principal secretary of the state disaster management department, said on Wednesday that 27,500 food packets and 5,000 blankets were sent to Nepal from Patna and 5,000 food packets and 1,000 blankets were sent from Muzaffarpur.

In the past two days, 20,000 food packets and 4,000 water bottles were sent to Nepal from East Champaran and 10,000 food packets and 10,000 water bottles were sent from West Champaran.

In addition, 18,000 packets of biscuits, 9,000 packets of noodles, 3,000 water bottles and 400 blankets were sent to Nepal from Gaya.

Meanwhile, people from the state stranded in Nepal continued to return to India. Nearly 2,000 people reached relief camps set up on the India-Nepal border and were directed to their homes after being given necessary aid.
