Chikkamagaluru, Apr 30: Naxal banner and pamphlets suddenly surfaced near Kellar in Sringeri taluk of the district on Wednesday April 29. A banner was found to have been tied near Kellar auto stand on the road leading to Kigga from Sringeri, and pamphlets were found strewn around the place.

The policemen rushed to the spot immediately after gathering information about naxal literature, and collected these items. The banner calls upon people of the area to stoutly oppose the plan to create reserve in Kudremukh forest and implementation of Kasturirangan report/ It has also called upon villagers to boycott gram panchayat election. Other than this banner and literature, the taluk has not witnessed any naxal activity in the recent past.

Some have expressed the suspicion that the banner and pamphlets would have been created to spread a sense of confusion and fear among the villagers. Sringeri poilce, who have registered a case, are investigating the matter.

It may be recalled that similar pamphlets and banner had been found at Tekkur Circle in the taluk sometime back, but during combing by Anti Naxal Force, no naxal activity was found.
