Kundapur, May 1: After a heavy vehicle hit a motor bike near Naykanakatte Dairy in Nandanavana near Byndoor in the taluk, Veerendra Ganiga (28), a resident of Ganigara Bettu in Heranjalu village in the taluk lost his life. The accident occurred on Thursday, April 30.
Veerendra was moving in his motor bike towards the town from Byndoor, when he was knocked down by a vehicle, which sped away thereafter. After he fell to the roadside due to the impact of the accident, the vehicle crushed him before moving ahead. Suffering critical injuries, he died on the spot.
The body of the bike rider was torn into pieces and thoroughly crushed in this accident. As such, establishing his identity proved to be a daunting task. The Byndoor police, who came on the spot, finally called some numbers by using the SIM of the cell phone of the bike rider, after which relatives of the deceased came to the spot and identified the body.
Ganiga was involved with some business in Mumbai, and had come to his native place four days back. He was to return to Mumbai on Friday. Ganiga, who was unmarried, had taken part in a religious programme organized by his relatives at Dharmasthala.
A case stands filed in Byndoor station relating to this accident. Investigation has been undertaken.
