'Putrajeevak' Ayurvedic drug; Modi hit unnecessarily: Ramdev

New Delhi, May 1 (IANS): Stressing that 'Putrajeevak' is an Ayurvedic medicine aimed to help childless couples and not to chose or determine sex of a child, yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Friday said that "there are politicians who cannot take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly and rake up non-issues like this to hit him".

Addressing a press conference here, Baba Ramdev said there is nothing illegal about the drug in question and it does not help select sex of a child as has been alleged.

Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader K.C. Tyagi raised the issue in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, saying "PM gave a call for 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao'...and there is this medicine to determine sex".

"This is being done to target prime minister," Ramdev said, adding that "K.C. Tyagi should apologise".

Clarifying doubts about the name and why the medicine concerned is called 'Putrajeevak', the yoga guru, who has been a staunch supporter of Modi, said the medicine is called 'Putrajeevak' in many Indian languages and if there are problems we will modify it with an extra line saying it cures infertility and does not help users to have only baby boys.

On black money issue, the yoga guru said that Modi was busy doing lots of work and the nation should give him some more time to get the issue resolved.

"I have not given up the issue but the prime minister should be given some more time," he said, adding that the government has already started working on the matter.
