Mangaluru, May 1: A seminar on 'Issues and concerns of our community' organized by the Sylvester Frank Centenary Foundation and the Catholic Association of South Kanara (CASK) was held at St Aloysius College auditorium here on Friday May 1.

Addressing the seminar, F T R Colaco, former director general of police (DGP) said, "It is a pleasure to be here in my hometown. We all have gathered here to discuss issues and concerns of our community. The main issue is the communal situation in our society. In many communal situations we Christians are soft targets. This is because of our beliefs and because we are small in numbers.

"We (Christians) have been attacked verbally and physically. In the states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, many incidents of attacks on Christians and churches were reported. In the year 2008, churches were attacked here in Mangaluru by fanatics. Attacks on Christians are increasing in the entire nation. In recent developments, the Ghar Wapsi programmes are being conducted by radical Hindu groups," Colaco added.

Referring to recent statements against minorities by BJP MPs, he said, "MPs of Modi-led government have been giving statements attacking Christians. Though the Prime Minister has said that he would take strict action, nothing has been done and this is creating serious suspicion in our minds. To overcome these kind of attacks on Christians, all Christians need to unite. We have to talk when it is necessary and we have to talk with right facts. We have to stop the false and baseless allegations directed against us," Colaco concluded.

Addressing the gathering, mayor Jacintha Alfred said, "I feel privileged to be a part of this programme. I appreciate the organizers for holding this seminar. I thank each and every one for calling me to this event."

Mayor Jacintha Alfred was felicitated at this occasion.

Richie Rodrigues, Flavia Agnes, advocate, Mumbai High Court and social activist, PD Sebastine, principal SDM law college, Capt John Prasad Menezes, President,CASK, Dr Ronald Fernandes, bureau chief of Deccan Herald, Walter D'sa and others were present in the seminar.

i too am against attack on places of worship. thats really wrong what people are doing. place of worship is sacred be it churches temples or mosques. these place should be kept away from bad politics.
i also condemn religious conversion. y convert girl or a boy and take them away from their parents. is it good? it will be curse for those who do that. tears of the parents who lost their children after conversion will definitely pay back really bad who do that. that pain will be felt only by the parents whose children have forgotten their family after conversion. so i feel as long as religious conversion happens till then ghar wapsi also will be happening.
wat was the need for sending Bible copies to Earthquake hit places in nepal? should have sent Bible to evil places in isreal n syria where only evil and brutal thinks happen in the name of god and religion.

Issues and concerns of our community should be how badly we have have deteriorated our Prime Real Estate, Coffee Estates, Tile Factories and our entity as a prominent Citizens of our Country. If we are vibrant in our Economic Stature along with decent Education level, how can we dragged in to a Religion whirl wind. Most of our Youths migrate to distant green pastures, leaving behind their old parents, Properties and Entities this is the concern. Why our Youths shun Government Jobs, that is the concern. Still we are happy to serve poor in our comfort zones (Church Compound) this is also a concern. Leaving behind similar important concerns and issues, we talk about ATTACKS. Have we forgotten the lesson of UNITY? our primary Teachers showed us holding a single broom stick and later a bunch of sticks. God enlighten us.

Christian's, a minority, barely less then 2 % of India's diverse, religious, cultural, ethnic entity hopelessly divided, & sub divided into multiple sects........ OFTEN HOSTILE TO EACH OTHER !!!!!! DGP Colaco....... i agree with your presumption, that there should be UNITY among Christian's !!!!!!!! but is it possible ?????? that is the million dollar question ???? Christian's are weak numerically.. economically, intellectually..most come from backward strata of the Indian society !!!!!!!! THEN IS UNIFICATION, POSSIBLE ?? OR IS IT A MERELY A PIPE DREAM............A ILLUSION..........A HOUSE DIVIDED, FALL'S..... Christian's religious hierarchy, has castrated the universal message of Christ...they have let down the faith....a curse that they will carry, to their very graves .....................

It’s high time to reopen the cases handled by former DGP F T R Colaco. Bestowed with so much communal venom in his mind people must think seriously the way he handled the cases of other communities

Better to have a high resolution camera fixed around the churches. also let one or two volunteers guard the churches for the safety.
this can help in catching the person who actually harm the worship place..

It has come to light these days that majority of the attacks on Christians have not been carried out by Hindu radical groups, although some indeed,Christians should be cautious of the fellow minority .it is they who are brainwashed by their blind faith who fight us not just here but everywhere in the world.

    An example speaks for itself…

Some groups living in the surrounding vineyard area, bought ducks , put stone fencing, they were identified by thier signboards…. 'Roman Catholic', 'Pentecost' ‘Born Again, 'Protestant' 'Assembly of God',’ 'Syrian Church' and what not. The Master of all these Vineyards was annoyed with these segregations, which He never preached. One day He sent very strong tempest and rain, all ducks came above the barricade and started swimming together in one water. Alas!, heads of each group started wondering yet none could identity their own ducks for all they looked similar, denominations vanished in the rain all them became one. Master was pleased about His works and He said, “It is Good”.

This is the need of the hour. All denominations should come together to sustain Unity between the Churches. It was a good reminder by F T R Colaco, former director general of police (DGP) through Sylvester Frank Centenary Foundation and the Catholic Association of South Kanara (CASK).

As soon as such kind of Unity is on its way Biblically, such tempest were withdrawn soon after achieving the desired results – One Lord, One Church. Mark 4:9 ""Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear."

Good call by former DGP Colaco. It is indeed call of the hour when some groups try to spoil the harmony of living peacefully in our society.

It is not only Christians, but all Muslims along with most of the Hindu should unite as ONE family to fight against the evils of the society.

Lets unite to fight the evils and make India to be a safe place to live.

Salt and light has nothing to fear.
Let us be on the tight track to ensure that salt will not lose taste and light will not lose brightness.
If we follow Christ, we don't dream to build empire. Daily bread will be granted anyway as reward to us for our sweat.

Respect every person, irrespective of caste/creed/color/language/social status! No matter to what religion you belong the person should have goodness of heart. Jesus said, "if you say you love God whom you cannot see, and do not love the human beings you can see, you are a liar!" Love of human beings is the proof of love of God.

The main issue among some people is, they think Christians are converting other people by luring them and this kind of thinking give rise to communal tension and hatred! This misconception should be removed from the minds of the people. Majority of the Hindus knows it is not true, but there are still some people got stuck with this kind of belief. Majority of Christian churches either Catholics or Protestants do not believe in conversions of this kind for sure. But there are a few individuals who does not belong to these churches run their own kind of prayer meetings at home etc are into conversions and spoil the name of the whole community.

We need to unite otherwise attacks on Christians will increase. But fact is how many christians treat fellow christians as their own? How many of us don't try to pull fellow christian's leg? Why are we jealous when fellow christian is coming up in life? Unless we treat fellow christian like our own, all these seminars go in waste. Christians..wake up...

    Yes it is good.
we should also have a legal cell at all parishes.
Unity should be based on right values and principles. Never to harm anybody. Should only be for our defense. Otherwise it will be our disaster.
Parsis, Jews and to some extent Sikhs and Jains are good examples.
