Delhi cabinet clears compensation cheques for farmers


New Delhi, May 1 (IANS): The Delhi cabinet on Friday approved the distribution of cheques under Gajendra Singh Kisan Sahayata Yojana to farmers of Delhi from May 8 onwards, an official statement said.

These cheques will be given to farmers whose crops have been destroyed by recent unseasonal rains.

The cabinet meet, chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, decided that based on official assessment, farmers whose entire crop has been destroyed would be paid Rs.20,000 per acre," the government said in a statement.

"In cases where the crop loss will be assessed below 70 percent, the farmers will get a minimum compensation of Rs.14,000 per acre," it added.
