New Delhi, May 2 (TNN): Punjab's education minister Surjit Singh Rakhra on Saturday stirred a fresh controversy when he sought to play down the death of a girl, who got killed after being molested and shoved off a moving bus owned by Punjab's ruling Badal family.
"Nobody can stop accidents. Whatever happens that happens by God's will," Surjit Singh Rakhra said on Saturday.
"We will take precautions in future but we can't stand in front of nature, whether it's accident or any other thing," Surjit Singh Rakhra added.
The family of the teenage girl has decided not to cremate the girl's body until the owners of the company running the bus service are booked for causing death by negligence. The bus belongs to Orbit Aviation, a company owned by Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal.
The father alleged that he was being forced to reach a compromise and said he would not even allow an autopsy until his demand was met.
"My daughter needs justice. She was a little girl. Is our legal system so weak that it can't even mention charges against the owner?" the angry father said. "I have taken my son to a safe location. I was being pressurised to enter into a compromise with some people," he alleged.
The girl's body has been kept at a local private mortuary at village Singhewala, three kilometres from where the mother and daughter were thrown out of the bus. It has been more than two days since she was thrown out of the bus with her mother by the bus staff after they quarrelled over the fare. All the four men behind the grave crime have been arrested.
The father also alleged that his wife and son were not convinced that the right men have been arrested.
The four accused were produced in the court of judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) Pratima Mahajan, who remanded them to police custody till May 4.
