Sydney, May 2 (IANS): The bodies of two Australian convicts who were executed in Indonesia on April 28, arrived in Sydney on Saturday.

Andrew Chan, 31, and Myuran Sukumaran, 33, were executed at Besi prison on Nusakambangan Island. Six other convicts -- four Nigerian men, a Filipino woman and one man each from Brazil and Indonesia -- were also executed.

Andrew and Myuran were arrested in 2005, for trying to smuggle 8.2 kg of heroin worth 40 billion rupiah (about $3.1 million) into Indonesia.

Relatives of the two men also arrived in Sydney on the same flight from Jakarta, ABC reported.

Sukumaran's parents, brother and sister were onboard the flight along with Febyanti Herewila, who married Chan on the eve of his execution.

Australian ambassador to Indonesia Paul Grigson, who was recalled to Australia in the wake of the executions, was also on the flight.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has condemned the executions saying it "cruel" and "unnecessary". He said it was a "dark moment" in the relationship between Australia and Indonesia.

Indonesia has defended the executions as vital to its "war" against drugs.
