Bantwal, May 4: In a tragic incident a boy drowned while swimming in a pond located in a private property at Marikkini, Adyanadka here on Sunday May 3.

The deceased has been identified as Pavan Raj (14), son of Appayya Salian, a resident of Marakkini.

Pavan along with two other boys - Sunil (14) and Prajwal (13) - had gone to Adyanadka town and in the afternoon on their way back to Marakkini, stopped at a private property that had a pond. They trespassed into the property, and without knowing the depth of the pond or swimming properly, they got into the water.

While swimming, Pavan moved towards the deeper end of the pond and got pulled in. The owner of the private property on learning about the incident immediately called the Puttur fire service and Vittal police. The fire and police personnel searched for Pavan, and with the help of expert swimmer Partha Varanasi, retrieved the boy's body from the water.

Vittal SI Prakash Devadiga and other police personnel arrived at the spot and registered a case.

Sunil, son of Marakkini resident Shivaram Bangera, is a student of 10th standard and Prajwal of 8th standard in a local school.
