Offensive behaviour : Accused, victim's well-wisher arrested

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 4: Sanjay Das (22), a native of Assam, had deliberately groped a medical student when the latter was standing near LIquid Lounge near Jyoti Circle in the city on the night of Saturday May 2. He has since been arrested and produced in the court, upon which he was remanded to judicial custody.

Sanjay had tried to escape after making unwanted contact with the student's body, but was chased by a friend of the student. This friend succeeded in finding out the identity of the culprit and then fought with the owner of a fast food shop at Lighthouse Hill, where the offender worked. The friend of the medical student has been identified as Harishil Shetty (23), a resident of Kalpane in Padavu here.

Harshil Shetty, who doggedly followed Sanjay, found that he was hiding in the fast food shop where he worked. Shetty then began to fight with the owner of this joint, asking him to hand over the offender.

When the Bunder police reached the spot, took control of the situation, and asked Shetty to stop quarrelling, he told them that he does not need any police to handle this issue, as he was confident of teaching a lesson to the culprit on his own. He also jostled with three policemen.

Feeling offended, the police arrested Harshil and produced him in court, after which Harshil too was sent to judicial custody.

Mr. Shetty, your have done courageous act and at the same time you have done foolish act too. You cannot take law in your hand. When police arrive, it is their duty to handle the situation. Any interference will result in obstruction of justice. One need to respect the authority, if not the individual policemen.

Here I see many in the group and witnessing the incident. It was 11pm so they should have stayed in group / walk in group until they departed in their vehicle. The molester would not have the courage to go near the group. If you have seen how Lions hunt buffaloes, the lion will wait until one or two buffaloes come out of the group and they they will pounce on the buffalo which is not in group.

A Hindi Action movie had a good dialogue, wherein The hero asking the judge "Do you want a Policeman Guarding you or a person having no respect for the law"
    Please think about these points.
    1. Do we want these migrant workers here in our town
    2. Are we mature enough to roam around the city at 11.00Pm
    3. Does the owners of the restaurant this victim visited have enough security at the middle of the night for their customers.
    4. Mr shetty, having such a good qualification and a good job, knows how to deal with the law.
    5. The owner of Danish fast food, having this accused as the employee, has any responsibility for the crime supposedly committed by him.
    6. Police, being accused by all, complainants and the victims, are the harassed class today. Some one commented on the rights of Mr. Shetty to protect himself. What about the policemen who are toiling day and night for the safety of the citizen. Dont they have the right of self defence. You may know Mr. Shetty as a good person but for the police he is just another Sanjay Das.
Finally, the present generation has to be more practical than just use these social media to vent their anger.
GIVE RESPECT AND EXPECT THE SAME FROM OTHERS. YOU DEMAND RESPECT AND YOU MAY NOT GET IT.
may be you are in the right direction but never go against the law of the land.
FINALLY, what Mr shetty has done is a courageous act and as a good friend, he has done his duty. Now, you the friends, who are witness to this crime, should approach the court, with a good lawyer, and convince the court for a speedy trial and release of Mr.shetty.

If cops are not cooperating, do u expect Harshil to let it go? People blame youths for being emotional. Isnt that the original wuality of humans? He stood for humanity my friend. He performed his duty as the citizen. He broke the law because the cops started breaking the law in the first place.

People remove your blindfold… Look at the injustice happening to the brave man “Harshil shetty”. How many men can perform such a daring act of catching a molester for a friend???? Hardly one or two. But the police, no comments. We have to be ashamed of such a system, No girl can be safe in the society if such a system exists.. I being one of the victims friend witnessed the scene, the victim was crying for help on the road, but Harshil shetty and his friends were the people who happened to be the saviours by chasing the molester. But at the end, moral of the story. Leave the molester but catch and beat up the man who tried to help the victim. Wow what an irony, a big applause to the justice in our country. If this is the case, then no girl will shout for any help and bare all the molestation silently and no man like Harshil shetty will be there to rescue. As citizens of India we should fight back until we get justice to Harshil shetty.

!! And beating up a citizen with or without prior knowledge about the situation, according to the HUMAN RIGHTS is considered as a crime. Does anyone talk about it?? NO!! He did not ask for it… did he ?? he had intentions of only saving his friend by fighting for her.. and here BIG APPLAUSE to the society we live in, who says he was trying to be a hero… such a shameful scenario..
Every citizen has a right for self defence and what he did was the same. And which law states that a guy should be beaten up black and blue for defending himself. If this is the scenario a common man doesnot have rights to speak, to act, or to defend himself. Why does the system make laws when those are the ones who don’t abide by them.
Now where is the molester??? Still hiding inside.. and the one who tried to catch him to get justice??? Taken to the police station. well played!!! And did they catch the molester ??? No…!!! they were busy in beating harshil circling around him… till date there’s not even a single bruise on the bolster’s body… So wat do we understand here??? Don protect girls, protect the molesters and beat up the ones who stand for justice!!!
Till the girls with their friends arrived the police station, there was no news about the molester. Only when the victims friends questioned the cop regarding molesters whereabouts, the cop bothered to search for him and as always girls are questioned about why they roam about at night!!! …and yes now he is behind the bars.. but he’ll be out soon… but what about harshil…. Was it right on the part of the cops who are the ones to protect us, who are supposed to abide by the law to take such an action, to beat him up and file an FIR on him ??? Who is going to question them ??? Noone… and it will remain the same.. the world is cruel.
Hats off harshil… we are so proud of you. Your one among those handfew who fight for the rights by standing against injustice. we are lucky to have you.You are the real hero

I'm a one the friends of The unfortunate victim who got molested. i was there right next to her and witnessed the whole incident. we were walking towards the parked vehicle. Right then this stranger comes out of nowhere and tries his best to molest my friend and yes he succeeds in doing what he intended to!! it took us a while to understand what just happened and the moment we realize it, we were behind him trying to crack down on him. The molester escaped and i happened to just hit his head. My friend was helpless and while trying to chase him, she fell on the ground screaming for help. Right then our friends which included Harshil shetty raced to the spot and chased the molester. The latter was smart enough to escape from those who were chasing him. Though, few of my friends lost the track of the molester after chasing him for a distance, harshil succeeded in following the molester till THE DANISH FAST FOOD RESTAURANT where he hid himself.
For those who critisized harshil by saying about “premi ka izzad and bulls#it...”, she is neither her premi nor her sister. she is one of his good friends and more than anything she is a GIRL. Respect the fact that he was fighting for a girl and lemme make it clear, which majority of the men don't.
Frustrated and enraged by the obscene act by the molester, harshil searched for him around the restaurant and to all of your notice, he first seeked help from the cop who was near by asking him if he saw a man running for which they bluntly said “NO” and did not make an attemt to investigate as to what happened. Just then harshil saw the molester changing his clothes thinking that he would not be recognized. Harshil obviously had to raise his voice to call him out. The owner who then confronted Harshil defended the molester stating the latter was working in the restaurant since 4 o clock. Harshil got furious and was fighting to get the molester out. This enraged the cop who happened to beat him with their lathi left and right!

Harshil Shetty is one among those 100 people who witness such crime and actually step forward to help an innocent girl. If it was not for Harshil we might have never got the molester. The complete truth is still in the shadow. Harshil was prevented from catching hold of the molester in revolt to which He spoke to police. Police took only Harshil to the station instead of arresting the molester. The molester was arrested only after the victim reached the station. Harshil was beaten up by the police before any complaint being lodged and molester was roaming free till the victim came forward. A guy with a good will suffers and the society stands up to point out the bad in him, the society which stands and watches a crime for entertainment and later only comes forward to criticize with incomplete information. Harshil has a lot of bruises on his body but no harm came to the molester. If we shut our mouth and won't fight for the right things Harshil did, each one of us are responsible for outnumbering good people like Harshil who do not tolerate crime when witnessed unlike the majority who watch and walk off. Keep quiet now and it will bite back next time when your own sister or friend cries for help there will be no another Harshil Shetty left to step forward for rescue.

I mean.. What are they even trying to show to the world by arresting the one who was only trying to help the victim??? Oh!!! Just because the cop's ego was hurt??? What about the victim's feelings and the impact that had on her??? Come on guys, the girl was fallen on the floor and was crying for help.. For all you spineless worms who happens to call Harshil a premika or hero... so be it.. He is the real hero.. He is the real man.. Unlike a huge number of men who have only endured the art to blame the victim or her side of people..
It’s a real scary fact to absorbed that the cop arrested the rescuer, in spite of being aware that the molester was trying to hide inside that restaurant.. When the cops, who should be the ones to protect us aren’t doing their bit.. so what is wrong in what Harshil did.. His acts were purely out of frustration and helplessness that the cop was bashing him instead of the molester… Wake up guys.. Stop blaming him.. Harshil did the right thing.. ALL POWER TO YOU HARSHIL. You should definetly take a bow.. #RESPECT.

Mr Shravan, I read your comment entirely and if what you have mentioned is right, then like me every person in a right state of mind, will support Harshil Shetty. Its about time we stand up for the crimes happening in this wonderful city. Harshil Shetty is a good citizen who stood up for his friend's dignity. He didn't want to be proved as any vigilante. Its completely unfair if people accuse him of showing off or trying to be a hero of a movie or even the prime minister of India. His involvement was not something he had planned, to gain respect. Please think about it, his involvement is completely spontaneous. He stuck to his conscience.
Dear police, for once, think over the intentions of Mr Shetty. Take a bow Mr Shetty.

Whatever Hershel did to catch the culprit was a great job indeed, morally and socially but he should have listened to the police and should have controlled his anger. His fate was bad and in the bargain instead of justifying his action now he has to undergo lots of legal action against him. I hope you people will help and support him and try to settle the matter with the police without further hassle.

    contd pg 2.

police then arrived and took the owners side as Harshil was fighting to get the man out.he tried to explain the police too, they too din take any action on the molester and in turn 3 policemen manhandled him charged him severely with lathi he tried to stop them, but he couldnt.Harshil inturn pushed and attacked one of the policeman as an act of self defence. And then the police arrested Harshil instead of arresting the molester..the molester was left there and harshil was taken to the station.the police told the owner to come to police station for inquiry.the owner then told the molester to hide in his room..the police still din summon the molester until all of his friends including the victim came to the police station to protest..The police got pressurised then and sent an interceptor including the witnesses along..then they went to the room and succeeded in identifying the culptlrit and got him to the station.FIR was lodged against the molester Sanjay Das(22) the same night at around 1 am.
The next morning the Danish(bavute gudde light house) fast food owner took control over the situation and made sure he was on the safer side.all he cared about was his reputation of his buissness. FIR was lodged against Harshil Shetty stating he misbehaved with the cops and now he is being imprisoned.

Its sad to see that the Mangalore police as well as the fast food owner were less concerned about the crime but were concerned about their ego.today Harshil is in trouble because he tried to catch the culprit. You can't jus expect a person who is doing something good and gets beaten by the cop and still expect to be quiet about it and not defend himself when he's being trashed.
We are representing here not only to get justice for both these victims but also to fight against such incidents happening in the town.
We,the youth of Mangalore are sick and tired of all the injustices happening to us.

Dear readers I kindly request you all not to Come up with false statements without having the knowledge of the whole scenario.I was one among the many people to witness this utter shameful and horrifying incident. Harshil Shetty is not another modi or a movie star as you all have mentioned. Harshil Shetty is a well educated B.E distinction pass graduate. he is currently working in a reputed IT Company in Bangalore.he came down for the weekend to spend time with his family and friends.

On May 2nd at around 11.00 pm after he had met his friends at liquid lounge jyothi and when they were heading home one of his female friend went to get her vehicle which was parked a little away..The molester took this as an opportunity and physically molested her right on the foot path of the main road when we heard her scream we saw her fallen on the ground helpless and pleading for help in devastation. The molester then spritnted towards bavuta gudde through the stairs. We all chased him but had not luck catching him..but Harshil Shetty never gave up.he continued the search and chase. He then approached a police posted outside the bavute gudde eidgah masjid and asked if the cop saw anyone running. The police then said he din see or notice anyone there and as Harshil was returning back to reunite with his friends he spotted the molester going inside DANISH FAST FOOD RESTAURANT right opposite St.Aloysius degree college bus stop.when he saw The molester was changing his shirt so he wouldn't be recognized for the hideous crime he's committed.Harshil then confronted him and asked him to get out of the restaurant come along.. but the owner of the restaurant interfered as the molester was an employee there and when Harshil told him the incident the owner lied, supported and defended the molester stating he was in the shop itself since 4pm and refused to hand him over so he could take him to the police station.By then Harshil lost his temper and things went wrong and he confronted the owner too.

A girl was molested. Her friend went through all that to defend her honour. And what does he get in return? Accusations. Shame on all of you! Seriously! Instead of dealing with the real issue, you guys are shamelesly blaming the guy who was trying to protect his friend! Would this be your response if the girl was your sister or friend?

Information is usually manipulated and twisted. Without even bothering to find out Harshil's side of the story, you guys just chose to lash out at him! And for the guy who suggested that we break Harshil's bones Shame on you!You are a certified idiot!

I am not suggesting that we take law into our hands. But isn't it unfair to judge him without even listening to his side of the story? And how can you guys shamelessly ignore the fact that a girl was molested!

Those comments just highlighted the level of immaturity and ridiculousness that exists in our society.

And for all those who have to drag Narendra Modi in this situation as well, you guys seriously need to grow up! Absolutely no words for you guys. I mean, was that point even relevant?!

How can a youth ask the police not to interfere and say that he can handle the situation while fighting with other people for whatever the reason…? Finally I can say a somewhat good job by police in arresting both Sanjay & Harshil and producing both in the court.
