Syrian army officer wounded in Damascus blast


Damascus, May 4 (IANS): A senior Syrian army officer was wounded in an explosion in a northern Damascus district on Monday, a monitoring group reported.

The blast targeted the convoy of the head of Syrian military supplies, who is believed to be Brig. Muhammad Eid, Xinhua news agency reported citing the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The officer was wounded but two of his guards were killed in the blast that rocked the Rukn Addien neighbourhood, north of the capital Damascus.

The London-based watchdog group said the blast was followed by an exchange of fire.

A number of civilians were also injured, reports said.
