11 militants killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, May 4 (IANS): Eleven Taliban militants were killed as security forces raided parts of Afghanistan's militancy-plagued Kunduz province on Monday, the interior ministry said in a statement issued to the media outlets.

"A total of 11 armed insurgents, including two local commanders namely Mullah Shirzai Gajr and Molovi Qurishi, have been killed as security forces conducted cleanup operations in Imam Sahib and Chahar Dara districts this morning," Xinhua news agency quoted the statement as saying.

Eleven more militants sustained injuries during the operations, the statement further said, adding operations have been continuing.

It did not say if there were casualties among the security personnel.

Taliban militants launched a massive offensive in parts of Kunduz province early last week and so far scores of people, including militants and security personnel, have been killed.
