Palestinian attacks tram passengers, wounded by Israeli forces

Jerusalem, May 4 (IANS): A Palestinian was wounded on Monday by Israeli security forces at a light-rail station in Jerusalem after he tried to stab several passengers, according to Israeli police.

The alleged assailant tried to knife people waiting for the tram at the Givat HaMivtar stop, north of Jerusalem, but security forces opened fire and wounded the 35-year-old, who was then taken to a hospital in Jerusalem, Efe news agency reported citing Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld.

Similar individual attacks carried out by Palestinians in East Jerusalem have increased over the past nine months, which has led to an increased presence of Israel security forces throughout the city.
