Punjab SC panel orders security for Moga victim's family

Chandigarh, May 5 (IANS): The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission on Tuesday asked the state police to provide security cover to the family of Moga molestation victim Arshdeep Kaur.

The victim, aged 13, had died last Wednesday after being molested and pushed out of a private bus owned by Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal's company. Her mother was also thrown out of the moving bus and received serious injuries.

The direction for security came from commission chairman Rajesh Bagha to Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota on Tuesday.

The commission had sought a status report from police on the Moga incident. The incident led to protests in Moga and other places and the victim was only cremated four days after her death.

Sahota told the commission that four accused, including three employees of Badal's Orbit Aviation transport company, were arrested after being booked for murder, attempt to murder and molestation.

The panel has also recommended the Punjab government to provide grant of Rs.6.20 lakh as per SC Act to the victim's family.
