Kathmandu, May 5 (IANS): Doctors working in the quake-ravaged areas of Nepal have afforded medical assistance to at least 38,865 people, the Nepali ministry of health and population said on Tuesday.

A total of 85 international teams, comprising 829 doctors and 771 paramedics, have been deputed in various areas of the Himalayan nation which was rocked by a 7.9-magnitude temblor on April 25. More than 7,500 people were killed in the earthquake.

Besides, more than 100 teams of Nepali doctors, nurses and healthworkers are working hard to treat the affected people.

Temporary field hospitals have also been set up by India in Lagankhel in Kathmandu, the Indian Army in Chhavni (cantonment) in Kathmandu, Pakistan in Bhaktapur, China at Singh Durbar and Dhulikhel, and Japan at Sindhupalchok, among others.

The largest number of people afforded treatment was in Kathmandu (13,755), followed by Bhaktapur (5,670), Kavre (5,065), Nuwakot (4,571) Lalitpur (1,867) and Sindhupalchok (1,377).

The ministry said it was educating the public about the dangers of an epidemic through the radio, TV and social media.
