Session may be extended for Lok Sabha


New Delhi, May 5 (IANS): An extension of the sittings of Lok Sabha in the ongoing session is possible, government sources said on Tuesday.

A senior minister said if needed the session can be extended, but added that no such formal proposal has been discussed so far.

"We can extend the session depending on the business of the house. But it has not yet been discussed," said the minister who did not want to be named.

"We still have three days for Lok Sabha," he added.

The budget session of parliament began Feb 23, and went on a month long break March 20.

The Rajya Sabha was prorogued in the break period, and a fresh session was called from March 23, goes on till May 13. A

The Lok Sabha meanwhile met after the break on April 20, and its session is scheduled to end May 8.

The important legislative business pending includes the controversial land acquisition bill, land boundary agreement bill, juvenile justice bill, and black money bill.
