Delhi government warns traders against hoarding pulses

New Delhi, May 5 (IANS): The Delhi government on Tuesday warned the city's traders against hoarding pulses and asked them to furnish details of their warehouses along with stock position of pulses, a statement said.

The advisory was issued following a meeting between the trade representatives and Food and Supplies Minister Asim Ahmed Khan.

"All trade associations were advised to cooperate with the state government in ensuring that pulses, which are essential sources of protein for the poor people are available across Delhi at reasonable prices. All concerned were warned against indulging in hoarding or speculative activities," the statement said.

As a first step, all wholesalers in Delhi will be required to furnish details of their warehouses along with stock position of pulses while the food and civil supply department has been directed to take steps to prevent hoarding.

The government is also actively considering market intervention by creating buffer stock for pulses.
