Kejriwal's govt decides to monitor content of news channels

New Delhi, May 5 (PTI): Days after accusing the media of being part of a "conspiracy to finish off AAP", Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government has decided to keep a close tab on all the news channels asking its officials to monitor the content broadcast by them.

An order in this regard has been issued to officials of Directorate of Information and Publicity (DIP) to monitor the news channels from 9 AM to 11 PM.

This is being done for the first time by the Delhi Government. DIP officials till now used to keep records of newspapers cuttings related to the government.

"DIP officials have been asked to start monitoring the content of news channels related to the government and send a daily report on these contents broadcast by them to Chief Minister's Office (CMO)," said a senior government official.

Chief Minister Kejriwal had in a recent interview to a news portal said, "A very large section of the media has accepted 'supari' for finishing off AAP... There can be a public trial. There can be 8-10 spots in Delhi where we can collect a group of people and show the erroneous clips. That way we can start a 'janta ka trial'."

"DIP officials have been directed to monitor the content of new channels from 9 AM to 11 PM. Officals have been asked to do this work for at least one month and thereafter, government will float tenders to hire designated staff to keep close tab on all the new channels " sources said.

The Delhi Chief Minister today said that a section of the media was running a persistent campaign to "defame" AAP after it got an overwhelming mandate in the Delhi Assembly polls and that henceforth, AAP will maintain silence on issues other than those relating to government.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, at a programme held today, also said that the entire media needs to go for 'vipassana' when he was asked by the reporters about former Delhi Dilogue Commission (DDC) member-secretary Ashish Joshi's comment that "there is an urgent requirement of 'vipassana' and 'anapana' training by one and all in Delhi Government."

The role of a news channel is to check facts and give unbiased news. Freedom of speech does not mean journalist/news channels degrade themselves to such an extent that you simply repeat false stories given by one person or one channel without verifying anything, inorder to defame a person when he is innocent, whoever it may be. News channels should be held responsible if they do not verify facts before they publish news. What if someone makes false news about you or your family? Do u like it? It is very easy to accept lot of money these days from one person/party and make disgusting stories of another person/party inorder to destroy them. Media is very quiet and scared to say anything about those who are really looting people. No positive incidents, good work done by people, are shown in news channels these days. Its just negative news, who said what! In my view, rules must be made and media should be severely punished if false stories are published for the sake of TRP.

He has forgotten freedom of speech and expression. He came to power because of freedom of expression of the people. The previous governments also could have done it, but they respected the rights of citizens. At this rate he does all wrong moves and dig his own grave.

Well done AAP and Mr. Kejriwal, a very good decision to monitor the content of news channels. Our news channels do anything for the purpose of getting more viewers or popularity and mint money! P## pannaga our news channels publicize PILI!

I think, the kind of hatred, crimes and violence within our society is mostly because of the kind of media we have in India. Whatever they show on these news media is almost wrong!

Yes why not? He achieved with the help of Press what he wanted. Now he may not require them for next 4 years at least. Else same media will expose him for not delivering the promises he made during the election campaign. No doubt in India some time media and their personnel too need some “Ankush” but we can’t stop them reporting else their business too ruined for sure

here is the difference between Modi and Kejriwal!...

Modi has never monitored press freedom! might have called them Bazaru , but never tried to put "ANKUSHA" on them! he says let them do their job.. "kiski rozi roti, Modi ko blame karke/abuse karke chalti hai toh chalne do"!

But kejri is quite opposite.. he used them. he went hard on them during General elction and lost it, so next delhi election, he was very careful and said NO word against them!.. even they praised him in full form and he won 67! vhe vhe vhe.. ab asli chehra baahar aaya.. where are those, who said, if Modi wins, they will lose Press freedom, as he is dictator and all? I see even Ambani channel goin pretty hard on him, including first post and rest of the news websites!

main difference here is, I like Modi because, he says "Satta aata hai, jaata hai.. government bante hai, bigad the hai, girte hain- let us do this job sincerelY"

but Kejri came with a promise of "governemtn gayi koi baat nahi, CM ki gaddi chodne padi koi baat nahi" blah... but today, total opposite and never wants to give up seat and satta, so much so that, he will just KILL his opponets, be it in his own party or in Media! or oppostion.. Kudos... Delhi walon, tumhara Anth ke liye Brahma rakshas tumne hi paida kar diya.. vhe vhe vhe

BEFORE START THE IAC (INDIA AGAINST CONGRESS) MOVEMENT NOBODY KNOWS WHO IS KEJRIWAL. BUT MEDIA ONLY GIVEN THE PUBLICITY AND MADE HIM POPULAR BY INTRODUCING HIM TO THE INDIAN CITIZENS. MEDIA GIVEN GOOD COVERAGE AND PUBLICITY TO HIS AAM AADMI PARTY AND THEIR ELECTION CAMPAIGN. IT HELPED THEM TO WIN THE TWO ELECTIONS IN DELHI. WHY KEJRIWAL NOT SPOKEN AGAINST MEDIA THEN???? KEJRIWAL ALSO SAME LIKE MODI. BOTH ARE NOT READY TO FACE OR ACCEPT THE CRITICISM. WHENEVER MEDIA SHOWS THEIR PARTY & GOVT'S FAILURE, BOTH ARE BARKING AGAINST MEDIA. RIDICULOUS!!!!!

..INDIAN media acting like BOLLYWOOD..they are uncontrollable, Govt also mum fearing backlash..some channels directly responsible for many deaths in Mumbai attack, where they live telecasted footages, its proven..In nepal they are booed...Frankly speaking MODI hates Indian main stream media..in every occasion/functions he expresses his displeasure paid media..thats why he relies on social media..But in KUJLI's case, he used these media for defaming others..now in receiving end..

Its 100% true. This is dirty politics by Central government. They used media to come to power now they use it to tarnish Delhi government. Ther is only one party who made BJP to no wher situation is AAP. As darvins theory only the fittest can survive. So they cant go to people of Delhi to ask vote. The BJP Women Cell protested against Kumar Vishwas's affair. These BjP cell was dead when a young girl was thrown out of bus in Punjab. Thay dint protest. For them Vishwas affair was big thing than that girs death. Shame on you BJP women. Not to be calle women. Bi**H. Now they are showing they are women. NO RSS no other chelas when such things happened in Punjab. That is within the culture for them. Shame on you people.

There is some genuine stuff in Kejriwal's accusations that:
A very large section of the media has accepted 'supari' for finishing off AAP for it is real challenge to BJP.
If Media has played very active role in ensuring victory of BJP in May, 2014 Lok Sabha elections, these accusations can not be ruled out.
