Four die in Indonesia landslide

Jakarta, May 6 (IANS): At least four people have died after a landslide hit a village in Indonesia's West Java province, a senior official said on Wednesday.

Rescuers have recovered three more bodies after Tuesday's landslide in Bandung district, bringing the total toll to four, Xinhua quoted an official as saying. One body of a 50-year-old man was recovered on Tuesday.

Nine people have been missing after the disaster, which also left nine others injured.

More than 100 people were forced out of their homes after the landslide, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesperson for Indonesia's national disaster management agency, said.

The disaster also damaged a gas pipeline owned by PT Star Energy, posing serious threat to nearby villages.

Eight houses were damaged by landslide, Sutopo said.

Indonesia is frequently hit by landslides caused by heavy downpours during the rainy season.
