Leopard cub killed on Gurgaon-Faridabad road

Gurgaon, May 6 (IANS): A male leopard cub was mowed down by an unknown speeding vehicle on the Gurgaon-Faridabad road here on Wednesday, a wildlife official said.

The ten-month-old cub was hit by the vehicle near Mangar village on the Gurgaon-Faridabad highway.

"The post-mortem examination of the cub was conducted at a hospital in Faridabad. The cause of death was a head injury," Gurgaon district forest officer (wildlife) R.K. Jangra told IANS.

"Possibilities of more such cubs cannot be denied as a young leopard was seen in the same area nearly three months ago," he said.

"The foothills of Aravallis have been home to many wild animals," Jangra added.

The Aravallis is a range of mountains in western India running approximately 800 km in a north-eastern direction across the Indian states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi.

On November 15, 2014, a young male leopard was killed near Manesar (20 km from here) when a speeding vehicle hit him on the Delhi-Jaipur national highway.

During 2014-15, a total of nine leopards died in the Aravalli foothills.
