Karkala, Mar 25: The annual Konkani Pustak awards given Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy were presented in a glittering ceremony held in Hotel Prakash here on Saturday March 24 evening.

The awards for the year 2003, 2004 and 2005 were declared recently by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.

In the short stories section for the year 2003 Ancy Paladka bagged the award for his book "Puttu Xeticheo Kanneo" while Stephen Quadros Permude bagged the award in the article category for "Sahity ani Vimarso (Literature and Review).

Fr Alwyn Sequeira's anthology "Pinturam" was awarded best in the poetry category for the year 2004 and "Bhangarachi Maslli", a collection of short stories for children by J F D'Souza was rated best in the short stories category.

"Tapasvini", a Kannada-Konkani translation work by Sandhya Shevagoor, "Aaj", collection of poems by Suvarna Gadh, Honnavar and "Chandra-Rekha", a Konkani novel by Manu Bahrain were awarded best in their categories for the year 2005.

"Kavitapath Part - I" by Valley Quadros Ajekar was selected for special award.

Noted Kannada and Konkani writer Na D'Souza was the chief guest for the award presentation ceremony.  He presented awards to the awardees and honoured them.  On behalf of the awardees Stephen Quadros expressed his feelings and thanked each and everyone. Academy member Vitori Karkal introduced the awardees to the gathering.

Two Konkani books too were released on the occasion.  "Siddi Lokgeet Sangrah" by Francis J Harnodkar Siddi was released by Umesh Gautam, a known Ashthavadhani and guest of honour on the occasion.   "Dinakarale Kavana", a trans-literature work from Devnagari to Kannada by Anant Shanbhog Sirsi, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy member was released by George Castelino.  Academy president Eric Ozario presided over the function.


The programme began with prayer led by student of Lourdes School, Kanajar students.  Konkani Samanvay Samiti, Karkala president Nityanand Pai welcomed the gathering while academy member Vincent Alva delivered the keynote address.    Registrar H S Shivarudrappa proposed the vote of thanks and well-known Konkani poet Titus Noronha compered the programme.


Cultural programmes were presented byKudumbi Janapada Vedike Yedapadavu and Konkani Kharvi Kalamaand, Bhatkal.  The programme concluded with family agape.
