EC to have independent campus for IIIDEM


New Delhi, May 8 (IANS): The Election Commission (EC) will set up an independent campus of the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) here to train officials for conducting elections.

The EC will establish the independent campus of the IIIDEM at Sector-13 in Dwarka, an official statement said.

"The EC has a requirement to train officials of the country for conducting elections of the largest democracy at different levels ie parliament, state assembly and local bodies.

"The EC has signed MoUs with other Election Management Bodies of the world for exchange and training their officials in election management," it said.

Founded in 2011, the IIIDEM has been functioning from the EC's Nirvachan Sadan premises.

The IIIDEM has developed as a specialised international resource centre for capacity development of electoral personnel, both national and international, on election management and democracy.

So far, the IIIDEM has conducted over 100 training programmes and has trained over 3,000 participants including international electoral personnel from more than 50 countries, the statement said.

"To fulfil the aim and vision of the institute, the EC aims to develop an independent campus of the IIIDEM. Accordingly, 5 acre land was allotted by the Delhi Development Authority at Dwarka."
