MiG crashes in Bengal, two civilians die


Kolkata, May 8 (IANS): A MiG 27 fighter jet crashed near Alipurdwar in West Bengal on Friday, killing two civilians, an Indian Air Force official said.

"A MiG 27 of IAF has crashed near Alipurdwar at 10.30 p.m.," an IAF spokesperson said.

He said the pilot ejected safely but two civilians were killed on the ground.

The aircraft, which was based at Hasimara in West Bengal, had taken off from there minutes before the crash, the spokesperson said.

"A court of inquiry is underway," he added.
