New Delhi, May 09, DHNS: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was in the line of fire of the members of the ruling coalition for “misleading” the Lok Sabha on the issue of scrapping of a food park project in his Amethi constituency.
“The project was cancelled on July 11, 2014… were you sleeping for 10 months? It is you who want to indulge in politics of revenge,” Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal said in the Lok Sabha.
Minutes earlier, BJP member Kirit Somaiya had threatened to move a privilege motion against Gandhi for misleading the Lok Sabha on the issue.
“The then UPA government on June 13, 2013 had expressed its inability to supply gas at subsidised rates for the Shaktiman Mega Food Park. What was the Amethi MP doing then? Why did he not raise his voice then,” asked Somaiya.
He said the Petroleum Ministry never committed to give the gas for the project and “there is not even any instance of the local MP putting a word for relevant permissions.”
The Congress members trooped to the Well of the House raising slogans against the government. Rahul was not present in the House as he was away in Bhiwandi in Maharashtra to appear before a local court in connection with a defamation case against him.
Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House as the sloganeering continued. Later, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge demanded that the remarks made by Somaiya against Rahul be expunged. He claimed the BJP member “who has nothing to do with the subject” raised by Gandhi had made “defamatory, insulting and unparliamentary” language.
Gandhi had on Thursday attacked the government in the House over the food park and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of practicing politics of revenge and not “politics of change” which he had promised during the election campaign.
