Kasargod, May 9: The customs officials, in a flash raid, recovered 11 kg of gold being transported illegally at Karipur international airport at Kozhikode on Friday May 8. Four persons including three from the district were arrested in the operation.

The customs team found during detailed inspection that three passengers who arrived by a single flight were holding emergency lamps, which contained 26 golden biscuits weighing nine kg. One and half kg of gold was found in the possession of another passenger from Kannur, who arrived by another flight on Friday.

The customs officials have chosen not to disclose names of the arrested passengers. There is a general feeling that these persons were used by smuggling gangs as carriers.
