Hollande congratulates British PM on election victory

Paris, May 9 (IANS): French president Francois Hollande congratulated British Prime Minister David Cameron on his victory in the parliamentary elections.

Hollande also invited Cameron to Paris once his government formed, said the French presidential office, the Elysee, in a statement on Friday.

Hollande reaffirmed in the statement his attachment to the "deep friendship" between France and Britain, and to the promotion of their partnership in all fields, especially within the European Union (EU), reported Xinhua.

"They agreed to work together for the success of the Climate Conference COP21," added the statement.

Cameron's Conservative Party won an overall majority in the House of Commons following the general election held on Thursday.
