Musicians raise funds for Nepal quake victims in Kolkata

Kolkata, May 9 (IANS): Musicians from India and Nepal participated in a fund-raising concert for the quake-hit nation at a festival here on Saturday.

At the 'Yuva Music Festival 2015', Consulate General of Nepal, Chandra Kumar Ghimire, recited a poem composed by him on the 1988 quake that destroyed his native village (Dharan) in the Himalayan nation.

The event organised by the Academy for Musical Excellence and Alliance Francaise du Bengale, saw artists singing in Hindi, English and Nepalese in the memory of those killed in the natural disaster.

Nepal was hit by a massive earthquake of 7.9 magnitude on the Richter Scale on April 25, killing nearly 8,000 people, injuring thousands and rendering many homeless. Nepal's Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has expressed apprehensions about the toll touching 10,000.
