Environment impacts by accredited agencies only: Javadekar

Chennai, May 9 (IANS): Union Environment and Forests Minister Prakash Javadekar on Saturday said environment impact assessment (EIA) for projects would be done only by accredited agencies.

Speaking to reporters here, Javadekar said EIA could be done only by agencies accredited for such activity.

Opponents of the Rs.1,500 crore India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) have raised the issue of Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History, a non-accredited agency, doing the EIA for the project.
