Taiwan issues warning as Typhoon Noul approaches island

Taipei, May 10 (IANS): Taiwan issued a warning on Sunday morning as Typhoon Noul approached the island.

Taiwan's meteorological authority said that Noul could pose a threat to Bashi Channel and the island's south-eastern coastal areas, Xinhua reported.

The typhoon was about 600 km south-east of Taiwan's Cape Eluanbi at 8 a.m. on Sunday and is expected to move north-west at a speed of 17 km per hour, according to the warning.

As strong winds and waves are expected to hit the island's coastal areas, the authority advised people who plan to engage in seaside activities to take precautions.
