Kerala Minister Jayalekshmi marries her childhood friend

Manathavady (Kerala) May 10 (IANS): Kerala Youth Affairs Minister P.K. Jayalekshmi on Sunday entered wedlock with her childhood friend Anil Kumar.

The marriage took place at her home village Manathavady in Waynad district, 556 km from state capital Thiruvananthapuram.

Both Jayalekshmi and Kumar belong to the Kurichiya tribe.

Their political inclinations are, however, different as Anil Kumar and his family are said to be Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters, whereas Jayalekshmi is a Congress leader.

Jayalekshmi, 33, also holds the charge of the ministry of welfare of the Scheduled Tribes in the Oommen Chandy-led Kerala government.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Leader of Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan and numerous senior political leaders from various parties.

Jayalekshmi, who won the elections on her debut in 2011, is the only woman minister in the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) in the state.

More than 6,000 people were present in the marriage.
