Udupi, May 11: In an incident which occurred in the parking lot of a marriage hall in Udyavar near here, unknown thieves shattered the windshield of a car parked by the bride's family attending the marriage function there, and took away a bag containing large number of cash and gold ornaments.

The fact that the theft occurred in a marriage hall located by the side of national highway in the parking lot that is guarded by security guards has given rise to suspicions. The locals have pointed out that security guards at the hall usually come running whenever any vehicle approaches the hall.

The incident caught the family of the bride unawares, and the relatives were shocked at the sudden misfortune that befell them on this auspicious day. In addition to a set of golden ear rings, ring, mobile handset, and Rs 5,000 in cash, ATM card,  PAN card, and various other documents were among the things which went missing from the Maruti Ritz car parked by the side of Halima Sabju auditorium.

A similar theft had occurred about two months back at this hall. However, as soon as ornaments worn by a woman attending the marriage were pulled away, the people on the spot had found the thief, a Tamil Nadu-based woman, and handed her to police.
