Mangaluru: Victim in Shirva stabbing case dies, family demands justice

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (CLP)

Mangaluru, May 11: The man who was stabbed following an argument between two persons at a marriage hall in Shirva, Udupi recently, passed away on the night of Sunday May 10.

Naveed Khan

Naveed Khan was stabbed with a knife allegedly by Antony John D'Souza (A J D'Souza) from Pilar on May 5. He was admitted to a hospital in Manipal and later shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru. However, on May 10 night, his condition deteriorated and he breathed his last.

It is said that Naveed had come to attend a function at Shirva marriage hall. At around 3 pm, a tempo belonging to some decorations firm was about to enter the main gate, and at the same time, A J D'Souza was going out of the gate on his scooter. As there was no space for both to pass simultaneously, Antony asked the tempo driver to reverse, and the latter in turn told D'Souza to move back. An argument arose, with neither of them budging.

As people began to gather and a traffic jam ensued, Naveed tried to intervene but in a fit of anger, Antony grabbed a knife from his scooter and allegedly stabbed Naveed.

The accused was later arrested.

Speaking to daijiworld at Wenlock hospital where Naveed's body was brought on May 11, his brother Wahid demanded justice and strict action against the accused.

"This is an unnatural death. The person who came to help has been murdered, it is just not acceptable. We are heartbroken. We want justice, and the only way justice could be done is if the culprit is hanged," Wahid said.

The accused has been booked under Sections 302, 307 and 506 of the IPC.

Kaup police are investigating.

So sad due to anger he stabbed him and the innocent soul is gone. What about his family. This is only temperament & nothing. Due to heated arguments this happened.

But I strongly agree the accused must be punished.

Cannot believe in our own hometown this has happened.

In Bombay in a year 10 to 15 cases happen. But in Mangalore not accepted. I am very much upset.

Firstly, why bring religion in between!!

In an unjust, greedy, and cruel world all such views better be 'read and forgotten' or you will not survive for a single day!! Nature thrives on the dictum "Survival of the fittest" and we are a part of nature!!

This is how his end was written by the Almighty Allah and Naveed Khan died fighting for a good cause (trying to bring 2 fighting parties to normalcy). Inn Lillahi va Inna Ilaihi va Raajioon.

Something seriously wrong has happened in our locality and if you look at some of the comments posted here are very funny and some accusing each other or different communities. This very incident has got nothing to do with terrorism, nor has any communal interest and no motive behind such action. But still 2 people fought and the 3rd person gave his life for humanity as the dead was trying to calm to 2 parties…!

As I see the complete incident, it looks like Mr. D’Souza was at wrong. It is always easy to back-up a scooter than asking the truck or a heavy vehicle to back-up which is more difficult than moving a scooter. I think Mr. Dsouza could have reversed and gave way to the tempo to move first and then he could have moved on his way peacefully…, but! We need to learn how to help one another and move on in our life rather than fighting out for silly reasons and eventually end up with nothing but a bit of ego and may be a heavier price in life!

    RIP!!

I think the accused person was a very short tempered guy, and in a 'fit of rage', after exchange of hot words, attacked the mediator not understanding that the stabbing could be fatal!!

BTW, most of the times one who mediates in any physical altercation ultimately becomes the victim, as in not being able to settle scores with the opponent, all the simmering anger is directed at the 'mediator' so it is important for people to gauge the gravity of the situation and then decide whether to mediate or not just to save their own souls!!

Souza's intention was not really to kill.Just in a fit of anger he did this act. If he was drunk,he was not in a proper state of mind which angered him all the more when a third person came in between.
Did anyone say/Khans's brother say Salman should be hanged.???When it comes to our own people we have excuses.

an example of how anger can lead to disasters if not controlled. I am sure D'souza would have realized his mistake very next moment but it was too late. I sympathise with both of them because they were victims of their own angers & egos.
There are lessons to be learnt from every incident.

Please do not bring communal dimension to this bad incident (minority vs minority)
Souza should have been under the influence of alcohol and a bad tempered man. Whatever it is, he should be punished (hanged) for taking some one’s life for nothing.

    Fit of rage.
It's better always during anger to keep quiet for a 'second' and think of turmoil.
Both families ruined for a small reason.
Should be 'calm' in some matters is a best way.
    What's happened is not good.
    Very sad.

The accused just stabbed Naveed, who died of his injuries. He did not terrorise anyone. Some persons don't even know the difference between a murderer and a terrorist.

Dont lecture gentlemen.Whoever create terror is called terrorist and a small issue cost unexpected result is not less than terrorism.See how the anti muslim mindset never miss a single chance of calling others communal. We are the victims of chaddi fascist commualism by long time and sory to say the matter gone out of the topic here.In this case for me the culprit antony dsoza is just a person not represent any relegion.

Your four people Ramesha, Jeevan, Shanker, Sudheer are hate commentators here. First hate comment always comes from you. If it is related to any political party or any political issue it is acceptable but not related in any normal individuals life. If you see mostly, anyone met with any accident nobody will see who is he? is he from minority or majority? but trying o help that person immediately.
