Justice has won, says Jayalalithaa

Chennai, May 11 (IANS): "Justice has won," AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa said on Monday after the Karnataka High Court acquitted her of all charges in the disproportionate assets case.

"The judgement signifies that justice has won," she said in her first comments after the court verdict that sparked off boisterous celebrations by her supporters all over Tamil Nadu.

The former Tamil Nadu chief minister said the judgement had cleared her of the charges "levelled by my political enemies".

But she said the ruling was not a personal victory for her. She thanked everyone who prayed for her acquittal.

Earlier on Monday, the court struck down the trial court's verdict convicting her in the Rs.66.65 crore disproportionate assets case on an appeal filed by Jayalalithaa.

"Today's judgement proves that only justice wins," she said.

Expressing her pain that 237 people committed suicide after the trial court's verdict convicting her, Jayalalithaa said they too could have been part of the celebrations now if they had shown the patience.
