Delhi Police's barbaric face exposed: Minister

New Delhi, May 11 (IANS): The Delhi government on Monday said the brutal attack by a traffic policeman on a young woman who refused to pay a bribe of Rs.200 has exposed the "barbaric" face of Delhi Police.

"The barbaric face of Delhi Police, exposed by this act, raises very serious questions about the conduct of its personnel," Delhi Home Minister Satyendra Jain said.

A head constable of the Delhi Traffic Police was arrested after he hurled a brick at a young woman who refused to pay a bribe after allegedly breaching a traffic light.

"The way the policeman picked up the brick could have resulted in a major casualty," the minister said.

Jain asked Delhi Police to book the head constable under the Prevention of Corruption Act among other provisions.
